Considered best practice in early intervention, the key worker model involves assigning a designated practitioner to each child to ensure focused and personalised care. Your family will be allocated a key worker from our team of occupational therapists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and mental health nurses.
This key worker will be your primary contact (although the whole team will remain involved) and will:
- use an evidence-based, multidisciplinary assessment to focus on your child’s unique needs within their family and natural environments, such as kindergarten
- report back to the team regularly
- employ a strengths-based, family-centred approach to support you in achieving your child’s goals and connecting with other services in the community.
Benefits of having a key worker include:
- Personalised understanding: The key worker takes the time to understand your child’s needs, ensuring that interventions are tailored to your child’s specific goals.
- Family-centred interventions: We achieve positive outcomes for your child through interventions that actively involve the family, fostering collaboration and support.
- Empowerment and capacity building: The key worker empowers families and significant others, helping them build the capacity to maximise your child’s opportunities to engage in home, school, sports and the community.
- Consistency and trust: There is evidence that families are more comfortable with one therapist, ensuring a consistent approach and reducing confusion.
- Regular monitoring and support: The key worker regularly evaluates progress and adapts treatment plans as necessary, providing ongoing support and guidance.
- Multidisciplinary collaboration: By working within a team of professionals, the key worker ensures comprehensive support, coordinating services and resources effectively.
